Meet the Shoot The Centerfold Master Photographers
Steve Wayda
Playboy/celebrity photographer Steve Wayda has been published in more general interest, fashion, life style and men’s magazines in the world than he can count. James Woods and Tom Selleck both said his pictures were their best. Demi Moore loved her shooting, but Arnold wasn’t so happy when he and the editor disagreed. Pamela Anderson calls him The Bomb. Gene Autry told him, “Keep shootin’ those shots. I’d sure like to be in your boots, son!”
Steve’s iconic Playmate layouts are no surprise and nothing short of a miracle. According to both his peers and superiors, Steve is easily one of the best photographers of all time and his work has been admired by almost 10 million people per month, every month, every year, for decades. Steve knows that the secret to a good picture is light and attitude. It’s something he learned early on in his career and is now willing to share those secrets with you as part of the Shoot The Centerfold team of master photographers.
Jarmo Pohjaniemi

Ric Moore is a photographic powerhouse, shooting everything from advertising and editorial to fashion and glamour. You may have seen his images in Playboy’s Biker Babes, Employee of the Month, Latin Ladies, Special Editions, Playmates, and Girls of Hawaiian Tropic (just to name a few). In addition to photographing the world’s most beautiful women, multi-billion dollar companies have Ric on their go-to list because they know he can their products look just as sexy as a centerfold. Ric’s forte is an ability use his photographic knowledge and experience to turn any lighting situation to his advantage. He will demonstrate outdoor lighting situations, how to work under pressure, and overcome some of the most challenging situations in today’s photography. Ric can best be described as a master of both studio and location lighting. His approach to minimal studio lighting gives him the ability to work with everything from a multi-light studio set-up to a one- to three-light system including the use of reflectors.

Take a ride on the wild side!
(Just when you thought you’ve seen everything, guess what? You haven’t!)
Here is a brief glimpse of the car collection highlights to expect. Did you see any of your favorites? Well, that’s only 40 of the over 1,800 vehicles that this private collection has to offer. You’re more likely to run out of memory cards before running out of the most amazing cars ever seen in the world. (Bring extra cards!)
Jarmo says, “I could spend a whole year just shooting these beauties! Their lines are as beautiful as Miss March. Pick your model, choose your ride and you’re sure to be hitting on all cylinders!”
Lose yourself as if you were Benjamin Button – his car is parked right next to Dick Tracy’s pink car he and Breathless (Madonna) used to cruise into sunset. Next, aim your camera at the James Bond 007 collection where you will see an early Aston Martin and airboats used to glide over North Korean mine fields as seen in “Die Another Day.”
If that wasn’t cool enough, get ready to shoot a round with the original 1966 Batmobile (or with five later Batmobiles). Not to scare you, but there’s also the fully-loaded Ghostbuster’s station wagon that will save you from ghosts, ghouls and things that go bump in the night, then catapult yourself “back to the future” with Marty McFly’s flying DeLorean. The list just goes on and on, so you had better come see it yourself! Chances are, if it’s been in a movie or TV show, it’s here!
Welcome to Hollywood & Meet The Sets
Here are a few of the sets where you will be able to shoot Playmates and top models. Learn to light the sets as seen in glossy pages of Playboy and other top magazines. Learn different styles of lighting that can be used for everyday styles and photography markets. Steve Wayda, Jarmo Pohjaniemi, Byron Newman, Ric Moore and Ales Bravnicar will share their deepest photo secrets how of how to get your images to pop out from the page!
Hollywood cars
Admit it, you still haven’t forgotten how when you were a kid, you used to tie a bath towel around your neck and go running off to save the world from bad guys! Now’s your chance to take photos of your favorite action-hero’s vehicle, or even take pictures of your friend’s favorites just to make them jealous! There are almost 90 superhero cars in the Dezer Collection.
As well as popular classic cars, there are also collections of motorcycles, scooters, military vehicles, most with original weaponry.
“And now it’s a perfect time for you to finally fulfill your childhood dream and superhero fantasy.”
Barber shop – Set
Learn how to create high-key lighting situations without losing details and adding a distinctive punch to your images. You won’t be able to get a close shave, but you might just learn how to make your images razor sharp!
This is your chance to be creative because let’s face it, how many photographers look at a barbershop and see it as a great place to take pictures of a glamorous model? Well, the only way you’re going to find out is by attending the STC seminar / workshop!
Nothing like giving your photos a clean-cut look at the Shoot The Centerfold Barber Shop. Comb away the imperfections for a well-groomed photo!
Diner – Set
A Route 66 diner set has become a classic photo set and one you might have seen in numerous Playboy pictorials. The diner set is a “must-have’ on every photographer’s shooting list. Learn how to control reflective surfaces while posing your favorite model. (Sorry, hamburgers, fries and ice-cold shakes not included!)
While it may seem easy, getting a model to conform to the spaces within a diner can be very challenging. The model must not only fit the location, but also be comfortable shooting on tables and stools. Learn how to use the areas and spaces to the best possible advantage with the guidance of STC master photographers.
Service Station – Set
What would a classic car shoot be without a chance to shoot it inside a service station? Photographing a car with a model has always been a great challenge for many photographers. Two beautiful subjects both competing for your attention! Learning how to pair the right car with the right model is half the battle. And we are not talking about just any kind of service station, even the signs on the walls are original.
You must learn how to control the reflective (sometimes mirror-like) surfaces of the vehicle, then you have to find a model that isn’t too small or too large for the vehicle by way of composition.
Learn the right way to frame both model and vehicle, light different elements, as well as the do’s and don’ts of studio lighting with the STC masters. We guarantee you’ll never look at a model and car the same way again!

However, Ales takes these red flags in stride and refuses to take no for an answer, which is one of the main keys to his success. This is an area where photographers need the most help. We constantly hear, “Well, you guys have professional models.” Nothing could be further from the truth! We are constantly being asked, “How do you deal with available light?” Let us show you how! We will go outdoors, not at the “golden hour” like so many other seminars do, but show you how to harness the mid-day sun and take control of your light. No need to wait until sunset, learn to shoot ALL day long!
10. Learn how to get the most out of your assistants and crew

How do you talk to your model? What is appropriate and what isn’t? This is a very important lesson to learn. If you want to be a pro, you need to think like one!
14. How to find and approach models
“Where do I find good models?” Let’s discuss and show you the way to find the best models available! Anyone can find models, but how to approach them properly is something worth knowing. It isn’t always easy, but it is certainly worth the effort. Learn a few tricks of the trade!
15. Gary Cole and Jeff Cohen will be available for private one-on-one portfolio review and consultation for an additional charge of $250.00
Have you ever had a one-on-one session with a professional, top-notch photo director or editor? Probably not! It is almost impossible to get an appointment with these gentlemen unless you are a seasoned professional and well established in your field. Even then, good luck! Well, here is your chance. At this seminar, we are offering one-on-one portfolio review and consulting services for an additional charge. Just sign up for an individual appointment Saturday and Sunday with either Gary of Jeff. Don’t be afraid, they won’t bite! You will get an honest and genuine appraisal of your work and suggestion as to how to make it better. Editors always say that photographers are the worst at judging their own work. Well, here is the chance to get a professional opinion!
The Golden Hour
(And numerous other thing you’ll be learning at the seminar.)
The golden hour has always been in every photographer’s to-do list. Photographers call it their “gold rush” and there’s nothing like letting a beautiful sunset take its course and… voila!
The beautiful dimming light of the setting sun caresses your model and illuminates her skintone. However, there’s more to be said about sunset shots and letting the golden light just paint the model and everything else included in your frame. This can also be an editor’s nightmare because of color separation issues. We will guide and teach you what to look for in your next sunset that puts a smile on every editor’s face.
The Magic Of Editing
(Learn to Select the right images.)
To be successful in any business, you need to learn when and how to make the right moves. The same applies to your images when you send them to a potential client or editor in the hopes of a sale or getting published. There are many obstacles in your path as you learn to look for flaws in your images in order to make a complete, successful submission.
Keep in mind that you only get one opportunity to make a lasting impact. If you haven’t secured interest with your first attempt, the second is usually assumed to have already been seen by the industry professionals.
We at Shoot The Centerfold are masters of editing and making selections in our pictorials. It comes as no surprise that Gary Cole and Jeff Cohen are known to have some of the sharpest eyes on the planet. Their track records stand out like a trophy as the most prominent and prodigious editors in the magazine publishing business. Come and learn, develop your skill together with us.
Final program schedule will be added as we get closer to the seminar dates
Portfolio Review & Consulting
There has always been plenty of advice out there and they all seem to have the right answers… or do they? Let’s get to the bottom of it and find out what real professionals have to say who have lived, done it all and made history at the same time. It’s not every day that you can get your work in front of a photo editor and director who actually makes decisions on what gets published and what does not! Now, all this will be available to you at the Shoot The Centerfold seminars. Get straight answers without fancy, run-around talk. Gary Cole, Playboy’s long-time director of photography for over three decades, and Jeff Cohen, former Playboy editor & executive publisher of Playboy Special Editions, will answer your questions and review your portfolio. You will also receive suggestions and advice about your photography career, as well as how to maximize your photography skills and become truly competitive at photo industry standards.

One of the most overlooked areas in photography is the business aspect of running your own studio. Photographers, being artists for the most part, are not usually blessed with a core of business and financial wisdom necessary to establish and maintain a profitable net income.
At Shoot The Centerfold, we know from experience how important it is to understand photographers’ rights, how to sell an image, secure publication rights and everything else of which you should be aware. Buying a new camera does not instantly make you a photographer, nor does it mean that money will start rolling in, it just means you’re the owner of a camera.
Unless you have skills, experience and the knowledge of how to sell and secure your image rights, your photography will be nothing more than an expensive hobby. Gary Cole and Jeff Cohen have done exactly this for Playboy for a combined total of half a century. Their experience reaches into every aspect of publishing, contracts and how to make money with your images. Take this unique opportunity to learn from the best in the business so you can learn how to make a profit.
Here are few tips how to prepare yourself for the portfolio review
1. Select your best images
When selecting images for your portfolio review, be sure to choose eight to ten of your best images that show a variety of different styles. All the images should be from different photoshoots that exemplify your range of experience from studio to location. The images do not need to be nude, but they can be if you feel strongly about them. Select images that do not have excessive Photoshop manipulation. We are evaluating your photography, not your Photoshop skills. Make certain the print size or viewing area of your image is no smaller than 5”x7” – an iPad, Kindle Fire, or other e-reader would be ideal. Please, no laptop images.
2. Make long story short
Every photographer has a story to tell and we welcome them all. However, as good as you are in photojournalism, landscape photography, weddings, or even pet portraits, we are here to evaluate fashion and glamour photography. Please limit your selections to pertinent subject matter. Let your images do the talking, but feel free to ask questions. If you don’t, the answer will always be “no.”
3. Listen & learn
A Chinese proverb states, “A single day’s conversation with a wise man is better than a year of studying alone.”
As this is very true, we recommend you to bring a notepad and take notes for further studies. Also, while videotaping is prohibited, small digital voice recorders are acceptable. It is a rare opportunity to be able to meet and have your photos evaluated by editors of this high caliber. Gary and Jeff’s goal is to give you the benefit of their many years of experience in order to advance your photo and business skills.
Starting Your Own Photography Business and How to Make it Profitable
Most photographers that buy photo equipment, whether it be cameras, lenses, lights or other items for their work, think once they acquire what they need their future is secure. Unfortunately, it doesn’t always work that way. Now that you’ve spent a sizable amount of money on equipment, you’ve got to figure out a way to dig yourself out of the financial hole you’ve made in your wallet. Unless you’ve already got a good list of clients, you’ve probably found out receiving a return on your investment isn’t as easy as you thought it’d be. Sound familiar?
As editors, we are familiar with photographers spending extravagant amounts of money on equipment , both in studios and location expenses. If you’re assuming we’ve heard some pretty good horror stories and more from the photographers who submit their images to us, you’d be correct.
So what does an editor look for in a photographer when they approach us in the hopes of getting published and receiving future assignments? Clearly, each case is different and the winners are those who have their business plan together and are able to swim with the sharks.
Any established photo editor wants to make sure that their working relationship with the photographer is efficient with no unpleasant surprises along the way. As Gary Cole puts it, “I cannot publish your excuses instead of your images.”
One of Jeff Cohen’s snappy retorts goes: “Buddy, do we look like a photography school to you?”
Every day, there are hurdles and obstacles for editors and photographers alike. By attending the seminar, you are preparing yourself to avoid the setbacks and learn how to run a photo business as it should. You have come to the right place because you will not find better mentors with the unique, expansive experience held by Gary and Jeff.

In our lives, there are images that stay with us throughout our days which we remember as clearly as when they first stopped us in our tracks so we could take in the full beauty of a particular image – an ethereal blonde on red velvet – now forever seared into our memory. . . and into history itself.
Behind those images there have been a select few who have brought our dreams and fantasies to life and made them available once a month in the glossy pages of our favorite magazines. For almost four decades, the magic behind the photography has been kept behind closed doors, a closely guarded secret.
Until now.
The men behind the cameras and at the helm of the world’s most well-known magazine have spent most of their lives developing and fine-tuning their photography skills and are now part of a consortium of working professionals we know as Shoot The Centerfold.
STC photographers Steve Wayda, Jarmo Pohjaniemi, Byron Newman, Ric Moore and Ales Bravnicar are the very same masters who have created some of the most recognizable men’s magazine covers, centerfolds and pictorials for the past thirty years… and counting.
There is not any other photography seminar or workshop in the world that offers the same expertise and experience as Shoot The Centerfold. The STC master photographers are now available to share all of their photography skills, secrets and experience with you.
“Some of the finest things in life cannot be put into words. They must be seen to be believed.”
