Dasa Podrzaj, our second model choice for the April 2016 seminar

World travelled model Dasa Podrzaj joins Shoot The Centerfold’s April seminar fresh from the pages of Playboy. Her vixen appearance with curves in all the right places makes her a top candidate for any photographer. Dasha is no stranger to the modeling world as she has also won the Hawaiian Tropic beauty pageant at 17 years of age. Gentlemen, show your love and place your bets because she ’s about to make history at the STC seminar.

Stormi Maya, our first model choice for the April 2016 seminar

Our first model choice for the April 2016 seminar is Stormi Maya. It’s only natural since she became a two-time Playboy Playmate as a result of STC’s One on One session with attendee photographer Steve Ruegnitz. Stormi, a Bronx resident, puts out more free spirit, energy and looks than Playboy editors were able to handle. There was no surprise that her overnight success was sealed with her stunning measurements: 32DD-23-34. Stormi and her personality push photographers to achieve results that they could have only dreamed of. Are you a match and can you handle Stormi Maya? There’s only one way to find out! Come and show her what you got!

Why Are We Different

GANGBANG-568-2Our educational edge is based on our own extensive accomplishments and experience in the industry. We are internationally acclaimed photographers who have worked for and some still work for Playboy and have created some of the most talked about pictorials published worldwide. Over the past decades, our collective work has been seen in almost every major publication as well as in advertising campaigns and fine-art galleries.

No other seminar can currently match the published body of work that we bring to the table. In addition, we are still top working photographers in the industry who travel the world and are part of building the brands of many high-profile clients. From day one, the STC project was meant to connect the dots for those photographers who are willing to follow our success and take their photography to the next level. Our seminar attendees have the highest published rate of any other seminar in the industry. We don’t simply offer you a weekend full of fun but also an opportunity that can change your life. And that, my friends, is what makes us different.

Who joins the STC seminar and why?

We are often asked the question, “Am I knowledgeable enough to attend a Shoot The Centerfold seminar?” The answer is, most likely, yes! We have constructed our seminars to meet the needs and expectations of beginners as well as intermediate and advanced photographers. We understand that not everyone wants to make photography their main career and that’s why we offer a wide range of options based on your desired aspirations and your current photography skills.

Attendees join Shoot The Centerfold for several reasons. Some of you might simply want to a have an unforgettable weekend and a quick getaway from the cold of winter. This explains why the yearly STC seminar is held in Miami; no need to explain that upside too much here. Many of you have joined the seminar to learn lighting and photography techniques and to have an opportunity to photograph our beautiful seminar models. STC is also a great place to test the new cutting edge cameras and photography equipment either out of reach for many photographers or not even on the market yet.

The two day seminar also includes extensive information about the business of photography from the very same people who created and still keep creating the look and style seen in top publications, advertisements and campaigns worldwide for the past 30 years.

By popular demand, we added an optional third day for the seminar that goes deeper into the business of photography and publishing. This specific day does not have any models (it’s ok; you’ll survive). Instead, we will be focusing on how you should approach the market for your photography and how to elevate your photography and market it to turn it into a real profitable business. We will give you tips on how to improve your margins, bottom line, positioning in the market and objectively evaluate your strengths and weaknesses, so you can have the best possible chance to make it in the publishing industry.

We will instill in you a “never take no for an answer” attitude when it comes to your photography business. The STC team of experts consists of the icons of the industry, collectively holding centuries of combined experience. Let us save you a major learning curve and lead you in the right direction to make all of your dreams come true.

Meet The Masters

Starting Your Own Photography Business and How to Make it Profitable

Most photographers that buy photo equipment, whether it be cameras, lenses, lights or other items for their work, think once they acquire what they need their future is secure. Unfortunately, it doesn’t always work that way. Now that you’ve spent a sizable amount of money on equipment, you’ve got to figure out a way to dig yourself out of the financial hole you’ve made in your wallet. Unless you already have a good list of clients, you’ve probably found out receiving a return on your investment isn’t as easy as you thought it’d be. Sound familiar?

Editors are familiar with photographers spending extravagant amounts of money on equipment, both in studios and location expenses. If you’re assuming we’ve heard some pretty good horror stories and more from the photographers who submit their images to us, you’d be correct.

So what does an editor look for in a photographer when they approach us in the hopes of getting published and receiving future assignments? Clearly, each case is different and the winners are those who have their business plan together and are able to swim with the sharks.

Any established photo editor wants to make sure that their working relationship with the photographer is efficient with no unpleasant surprises along the way. As Gary Cole puts it, “I cannot publish your excuses instead of your images.”

Every day, there are hurdles and obstacles for editors and photographers alike. By attending the seminar, you are preparing yourself to avoid the setbacks and learn how to run a photo business as it should. You have come to the right place because you will not find better mentors with the unique, expansive experience held by Gary Cole and Jarmo Pohjaniemi.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does Shoot The Centerfold chooses its models for the Seminars?

Become a part of history in the making

Covers-AB-871

Once more you will have a chance to witness an editor-approved live Playboy cover shoot with a world renowned Playboy photographer Ales Bravničar. This opportunity is not available anywhere else but at Shoot The Centerfold.

Perhaps the one thing that the STC attendees desire most is the chance to see an actual photoshoot, live, up-close and personal. While many video tutorials exist online, available for purchase, or from a local photographer hosting workshops, nothing compares to being in the presence of a major work in progress that will be seen by millions of readers and watching the interaction between photographer and model unfolding as it happens.

Watching a true master at work can be compared to attending a music concert where you can experience the artistic process the way its creator intended before being transformed and manipulated by the editing and publishing process. It is true art in its purest form.

Even more valuable is the opportunity to question Ales after the shoot and receive direct answers to your questions.

Our Seminar Location – Little River Studios

LittleRiverStudios871Little River Studios is one of the most versatile studios in Miami where major clients such as Playboy, Vogue, Bazaar and European fashion houses come and photograph their latest collections. Shoot The Centerfold’s own Jarmo Pohjaniemi has conducted over 100 Playboy shoots at Little River Studios. And this should come as no surprise. The potential scenes available at Little River can be seen all over top publications and LRS has become one of the most reliable and most sought-after studio locations in Miami.

This will be STC’s second rodeo at Little River which now offers even more variety and shooting locations than it did at our last seminar held there. Each shooting location has been fine-tuned with clients’ requests and to photographers’ specifications, resulting in a most satisfying outcome. 10,000 sq. ft. of studios on an acre of open land close to Midtown Miami feature: an original 1880′s wood barn, two 1920′s beach cottages and a beach house situated on sand with palms, a northern light studio with white wooden floors and contemporary furniture, a spacious courtyard with three sided cabana sets on wheels, an outdoor cyc, two large studios with an infinity cove and 14 foot high ceilings, cement floors and walls. Bigger is Better
The XF Camera System is built using full-frame Medium Format sensors 2.5 times larger than the ones found in high-end DSLRs. Sensors this large deliver a powerful combination of the highest possible resolution together with large, high dynamic range pixels and exceptional wide angular response. The XF Camera System is quite literally the best of all worlds when it comes to digital image quality.

80MP resolution
The XF Camera System is available in multiple configurations, up to 80MP. Resolution this high not only delivers incredible detail but also provides creative flexibility, accommodating virtually any application requirement, be it print or digital.

Perfect 16 bit color
Balancing colors is equal parts art and science. Phase One has been working for over two decades to achieve perfection in colors across hardware and software, and the XF System is a direct reflection of that. You won’t find better color depth or rendering than with an XF Camera System.

14 stop dynamic range
Using large sensor technology, the XF Camera System delivers unparalleled dynamic range, retaining unmatched detail in both highlights and shadows. With the new and exclusive 80 megapixel imaging sensor, the XF Camera System delivers extreme long exposures of up to 60 minutes across 50MP, 60MP and 80MP configurations. An amazing creative tool, used by many of the world’s leading photographers.

Gary Cole, the Shoot The Centerfold Editor

Gary Cole

jerrica-568Gary Cole was the Director of Photography for Playboy Enterprises, Inc. for over 30 years. During that time, he managed the acquisition of all photography for Playboy and supervised photographers and production staff, studios, film and digital labs and photo archives. He has established and maintained relationships with leading photographers from around the world while managing an $8-million annual budget. Gary has extensive experience in approaching celebrity TV and film talent and negotiating agreements as well as being involved in all creative aspects of Playboy Magazine. Gary has twice been included in American Photo’s list of the 100 Most Important People in Photography.

He’s worked with most of the world’s foremost glamour and fashion photographers including Richard Avedon, Helmut Newton, Herb Ritts and countless others. He has also produced fashion and glamour shootings with hundreds – perhaps thousands – of models and celebrities, including Cindy Crawford, Elle Macpherson, Stephanie Seymour, Raquel Welch, Farrah Fawcett and countless others. This is your opportunity to learn the business side from the very best and the brightest.

Photography is so much more than just a camera and taking pictures.”

One of the most overlooked areas in photography is the business aspect of running your own studio. Photographers, being artists for the most part, are not usually blessed with a core of business and financial wisdom necessary to establish and maintain a profitable net income.

At Shoot The Centerfold, we know from experience how important it is to understand photographers’ rights, how to sell an image, secure publication rights and everything else of which you should be aware. Buying a new camera does not instantly make you a photographer, nor does it mean that money will start rolling in; it just means you’re the owner of a camera.

Unless you have skills, experience and the knowledge of how to sell and secure your image rights, your photography will be nothing more than an expensive hobby. Gary Cole did exactly this for Playboy for 30-plus years. His experience reaches into every aspect of publishing, contracts and how to make money with your images. Take this unique opportunity to learn from the best in the business so you can learn how to make a profit.

Here are a few tips on how to prepare for your private portfolio review

1. Select your best images

When selecting images for your portfolio review, be sure to choose eight to ten of your best images that show a variety of different styles. All the images should be from different photoshoots that exemplify your range of experience from studio to location. The images do not need to be nude but they can be if you feel strongly about them. Select images that do not have excessive Photoshop manipulation. We are evaluating your photography, not your Photoshop skills. Make certain the print size or viewing area of your image is no smaller than 5”x7” – an iPad, Kindle Fire, or other e-reader would be ideal. Please, no laptop images.

2. Make long story short

Every photographer has a story to tell and we welcome them all. However, as good as you are in photojournalism, landscape photography, weddings, or even pet portraits; we are here to evaluate fashion and glamour photography. Please limit your selections to pertinent subject matter. Let your images do the talking, but feel free to ask questions. If you don’t, the answer will always be “no.”

3. Listen & learn

A Chinese proverb states, “A single day’s conversation with a wise man is better than a year of studying alone.”

As this is very true, we recommend you to bring a notepad and take notes for further studies. Also, while videotaping is prohibited, small digital voice recorders are acceptable. It is a rare opportunity to be able to meet and have your photos evaluated by editors of this high caliber. Gary’s goal is to give you the benefit of his many years of experience in order to advance your photo and business skills.
