Creating a perfectly balanced pose
The perfect pose is a combination of body elements and balance. As seen in this image (at right) shot during STC’s recent trip to Africa, the key factors of this pose include:
Offsetting the balance of the model can create beautiful results, but it has to look believable and natural. It’s also important to place shoulders, hands and fingers just right. Often, we hear models asking, “What should I do with my hands?”
Create a “V”-form shape using thighs and overlapping knees gives a feminine illusion when standing as seen in this sample image. Overlapping the right knee too much can create unwanted results by revealing the left knee under the right knee and distorting the “V” look you’re trying to achieve. Experiment and create variations to find a perfect pose.
Use Posing Guides as reference for that perfect pose
The sample image above is part of an upcoming African pictorial shot by Jarmo Pohjaniemi a few weeks ago. The pictorial will be published later this year.
“Having all of our posing guides with me in Africa was a tremendous help to remind myself and show my model what I was looking for posing-wise,” says Jarmo. “This saved a great deal of time because the model can easily view and adapt the poses they can see in the Posing Guide.”
