Tamron has announced a pair of full-frame f/1.8 primes that will be part of a redesigned SP series. The SP 35mm f/1.8 Di VC USD $599.00 and SP 45mm f/1.8 Di VC USD $599.00 are both full-frame-compatible lenses packed with high-quality optics with a close minimum focus distance and Vibration Compensation image stabilization technology, along with a fast maximum aperture. They will also feature a fresh new external appearance with more recognizable branding, larger distance and aperture scales, and optimized switches for tactile control. Additionally, these lenses will be available in both Canon EF, Nikon F, and Sony A mounts.

A classic focal length for street photography, photojournalism, and those looking to get a little wider view, Tamron’s entry to the 35mm field breaks boundaries with a best-in-class 7.9″ minimum focus distance and 1:2.5 magnification ratio. It also boasts high-quality optics with two molded glass aspherical elements, one Low Dispersion (LD) element, and one eXtra Low Dispersion (XLD) element. The 10-elements and 9-group design uses these specialized optics to minimize distortion and aberrations for a clean, sharp, contrasty picture. Also, it has eBAND (Extended Bandwidth & Angular-Dependency) and BBAR (Broad-Band Anti-Reflection) coating which dramatically reduce the effects of ghosting and flare, as well as a fluorine coating on the front element that repels water and fingerprints.

This works in tandem with a circular 9-blade diaphragm for pleasing out-of-focus elements. Further benefitting usage, the lens is equipped with a high-speed Ultrasonic Silent Drive (USD) AF motor that is both fast and quiet. And, on top of this, the lens features moisture-resistant construction that will keep it operating in adverse weather conditions.

A lightly longer lens, the 45mm lens offers a very natural perspective that many users will naturally integrate into their shooting style. This optic shares many of the same outstanding features as the 35mm with its fast f/1.8 aperture, built-in Vibration Compensation, a fast USD AF motor, and both eBAND and BBAR coatings. Where it separates itself is with its own take on close focusing with, again, a best-in-class minimum focus distance of 11.4″ with a magnification ratio of 1:3.4 and a 10-element, 8 group optical construction that utilizes two molded glass aspherical elements and one LD element. Also, it has a similar body design that is moisture resistant and a fluorine coating on its front element.

Both lenses are compatible with both Adobe and the supplied SILKYPIX Developer Studio 4.0 software, which feature automatic corrections for various aberrations that you may encounter during shooting. This allows users to take their RAW imagery up a notch by utilizing data specific to the optical design of their lens. Also of note, the Sony A mount version of these lenses will not feature Vibration Compensation, as many of Sony’s cameras feature built-in image stabilization systems.
