See The Canon 1200mm: The ‘Mother of All Telephoto Lenses’ In Action
The folks over at MPB Photography have kept their promise to deliver some exciting content with the monster Canon 1200mm f/5.6 L USM lens, as we posted about it previously. Now who would carry a lens like this around? … (ugh, we would!)
The subject “Buckingham Palace” in London can be see in different focal lengths with the 1200mm. Add a Canon EF 2x III Extender and you get 1680mm and 2400mm with a Canon 1DX.
50mm | Canon EF 50mm f/1.4 USM
200mm | Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 L IS USM
400mm | Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 L IS USM
1200mm | Canon EF 1200mm f/5.6 L USM
1680mm | Canon EF 1200mm f/5.6 L USM + Canon EF 1.4x III Extender
2400mm | Canon EF 1200mm f/5.6 L USM + Canon EF 2x III Extender
The monster Telephoto lens seems to perform up to its expectations based on the images seen here. But, does it really need the extender? Extenders are know to soften the image quality a bit, something we learned during our safari shoot in Africa using Canon 300mm and 400mm lenses. But nevertheless, the results above are as exciting as they get… Even without the Playmates, the 1200mm lens does good for the ego.
