Big Surprises in This Year’s SI Swimsuit Issue
One of the most highly anticipated publications, at least to glamour and swimsuit or micro bikini fans, is the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue. First published in 1964, this annual magazine is a special event that has catapulted the careers of many models into superstardom and an appearance in the edition holds a coveted spot in most aspiring professional models’ hearts.
Models like Christie Brinkley, Paulina Porizkova, Elle Macpherson, Tyra Banks, and Kate Upton were all cover models that went on to very successful careers in modeling. And even if the model doesn’t get the cover, just appearing in the special edition certainly increases their fame (and likely their day-rate).
This year’s selection is 24-year-old Hannah Davis. Hannah is no stranger to sports (she’s been romantically tied to Derek Jeter of the New York Yankees) or to SI’s Swimsuit Issue as she’s appeared there the past two years as well. The cover was shot by photographer Ben Watts (Naomi’s brother) at Tennessee’s Blackberry Farm.
Also included in this year’s Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition is the inclusion of SI Swimsuit Rookie Robyn Lawley. SI has had “rookies” in the past (Kate Upton was one) but Robyn is unique in that she is considered a “plus-size” model. While many to most of the models featured in the Swimsuit Edition are size 0 to size 2, Robyn is a size 12. She’ll be modeling a piece from her own swimwear line.
Robyn Lawley isn’t the only plus-size model to appear in the magazine this year. Ashley Graham, a well-known model from Lincoln, NE who is known for her work with Lane Bryant, will be appearing in a black string bikini for online retailer swimsuitsforall.com.
So, it appears that whatever size you like your models, the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue will have something for you. The magazine hits the newsstands February 9, 2015.
