Interview:
STC: Welcome to Shoot The Centerfold Miami 2018. We are super stoked to have you as one of the models. Should we start learning Spanish before the seminar?
Melissa: Thanks for having me as part of STC project and if you want to know my wild side, start learning Spanish and how to dance salsa. Let’s make a deal, you speak Spanish to me, and I will answer in English. Teach me!
STC: You are a very successful model and admired in the industry. Tell us about your secrets that your clients cannot ignore?
Melissa: I’m not surprised that my Latin appearance has been in demand among clients and photographers. I think that the key is the way I carry myself. A perfect amount of seduction, beauty, and delivery is my secret formula. Be careful because if you get too close to me! My irresistible me will take you over!
STC: You’re also Miss Colombia 2011 and formally representative of Colombia in Miss International 2012. How does the beauty pageant word differ from the professional modeling industry?
Melissa: I think that beauty contestants always portray an image of happiness which is not the case. It’s an antiquated practice and often fake selling approach for the audience. In the modeling industry, it’s all about transmitting a variety of visual emotions, looks, and eye-catching actions which are believed to captivate consumers. In the end, I am very grateful to my beauty pageant experiences which opened the doors for me into the modeling industry. In the world of the pageant, I always felt a little restricted. Modeling allows me to express myself and stand out rather than just fit in.
STC: You’ve been hailed as one of the most photogenic Latin women by many. Do you feel the hot factor or your beauty benefitting your modeling career?
Melissa: There have been many rumors which do not always amount to a realistic outcome. However, I do believe that my looks are responsible for my success. But, most importantly, looks must accompany a great personality before any further progress.
There are so many beautiful Latin ladies that just can’t advance if you lack the combination of what makes a successful woman. In my case, I was very fortunate to have the right balance of beauty and understanding of the industry.
STC: If there were something else you would do besides modeling, what would that be and why?
Melissa: There are many things I would like to do. I am a chemical engineer which I did professionally in Colombia. Chemical engineering is what I would do besides modeling because it’s my first love and I studied very hard to be very good at it. But since the modeling doors opened for me, I’m taking the opportunity to see the world and enjoy the ride as long it lasts.

Never assume that models aren’t smart because you never know what’s behind the beauty. As for now, I’m having fun and love what I do. But, I’m also interested in acting and professional dance. Since a young woman, I loved challenges which keep me young.
STC: What’s one mistake photographers do?
Melissa: I think beginner/young photographers especially, should focus more on the production side and outcome instead of being overly excited about the female presence. Naturally, most women are flattered by compliments, but too much flattery can take away from the primary task of what photographers should be focusing on, such as making the images.
STC: What’s one mistake young models do?
Melissa: Most young models are trying to look like their idols, even when they appeared as something not suitable for them. Also, lack of understanding of quality photography is pervasive among young models.
STC: If you were to be a photographer. What would you photograph?
Melissa: I’d take a ride with director James Cameron to the bottom of the oceans to learn and to photograph the hidden beauty and mysteries of deep. There’s an entire world out there that we don’t know anything about it. Does anybody want to join me?
STC: Are you single?
Melissa: I’m in love with my life, career, friends, and family. I’m a beauty queen on a roll. Yeah! That’s what I am!
STC: Should men wear boxers or briefs?
Melissa: I always thought that the important thing is not what you wear, it is what you have inside 😂.
STC: Now that we got that straight and it’s an open market, what does man have to do to get your attention?
Melissa: First, men should be themselves and honest. It does not take a lot when you are real. How about this: Want to get to know me? Get a camera and learn how to photograph me!
STC: Miami is currently your hometown and Santa Marta, Colombia your birthplace. Where else would you like to live?
Melissa: I love traveling and visiting new places. Just give me sunshine, and I will be happy anywhere! ☀
STC: What does a beautiful woman like yourself do to stay in such great shape? And, is it a preference or because of modeling?
Melissa: I’ve always been that girl that can eat an entire pizza and not gain weight, but that doesn’t mean I take it for granted. A part of my lifestyle is healthy and active, and I do things that are fun like riding a bike and learning to play volleyball.
STC: If STC 2018 attendees would like to shoot you for a private photography session. Should they contact your modeling agency for availability?
Melissa: Outside or STC yes, they should contact my agency MC2. They take care of all my bookings.
STC: How long have you been modeling and how did you get started?
Melissa: I have modeled now for eight years, which started around the same time I became a chief production officer in a leading chemical company in Columbia. Then when you least expect it, while on vacation in Miami, my now current manager saw me walking down Lincoln road, and she proposed a full-time career in modeling. Voila!
STC: One day you are in Asia, the Maldives, or Miami, so what’s missing? Where would you like to go and shoot?
Melissa: Honestly, after all this traveling the only thing that is missing, is a shoot in my bed. Yeah, that’s a good idea! Maybe I can be a model for a mattress company 😂”
STC: Gentlemen, Melissa is on a roll and ready for STC Miami! Get your eye-sight checked; she’s money!
