Sarah Harris Will Crank Up the Heat at Shoot The Centerfold’s April Seminar: Interview
Sarah Harris is not just another hottie from New Zeeland. She’s the reason why continents unite and Shoot The Centerfold goes for the beauty despite any distance. At age 16, Sarah scored a Billabong campaign and her now regular appearances in FHM, Maxim and Playboy are an oblivious aphrodisiacal experience.
Sarah is known to raise the temperature among photographers and even handful Justin Bieber had to learn his lesson and wait in line.
Now the waiting is over and Sarah, the Maxim Australia swimwear model of the year, is coming to Shoot The Centerfold this April to set the new bar with her impressive measurements and comatose inducing side effects.
The real question remains to be seen: can you handle Sarah’s irresistible looks or are you just going to settle and watch her from the backseat?
Interview:
STC: Sarah, we must be dreaming that you are actually coming to our April seminar. Surely we have to provide emergency crews onboard for possible overheating from our attendees. We’ll also ensure that an Automated External Defibrillator from my company is readily available.
Sarah: [laughs] I don’t know about that, but I do know I’m pretty excited to be there and there are a few photographers in particular I’ve always followed and am ecstatic to meet. So if anything, you need to provide more security.
STC: You were just in India shooting with an STC attendee L Ramachandran. Give us a little heads up about what’s coming for this epic “1001 Nights” experience?
Sarah: Yes! I just arrived back from India a few days ago. I can’t give too much away of course. However, I can say it’s the best concept I’ve shot to date, plus for once in my life I got to play the badass as opposed to the innocent girl next door I always end up being. So, that alone was amazing. It had a pretty high production value and was the longest set I’ve shot for Playboy yet, so that definitely made a huge difference in the final product. Here’s where I say you’ll have to wait and see for yourself, and you give me a disappointed “typical” face. [laughs]
STC: If you had one superpower, what would you do and how would you use it?
Sarah: Oh God, I should probably say some power to save the world etc., etc., but I’m going to go with super speed. I would use it to unpack my luggage (I’m always travelling, and can’t stand unpacking), clean the house, and of course clean the streets, etc. Although just between you and I, the clothing situation in my room is right up there, if not worse, than the rubbish on the streets of India.
STC: Your looks are your superpower, just ask Justin Bieber! Anyway, tell us about your best photo experience to date?
Sarah: Oh no! For a second there I thought you were going to bring that whole saga up [laughs]. My best photo experience would either be the one just done in India, or a day shooting with my favorite photographer here in New Zealand. I come up with mental concepts, at super late notice and he always just deals with it. We spend half the day at cafes stuffing our faces with pancakes but still manage to get great content. Maybe a little more liquefying is needed but anyway. What can I say? It’s always an awesome experience, and he manages to get something extra out of me that no one else has. Maybe the pancakes are a lucky charm? I don’t know! [laughs]
STC: What is the one thing that photographers do wrong?
Sarah: Hmmm. “I would have to say, a lot of photographers I’ve worked with tend to see something that needs changing or moving, something that would only take a few seconds, and they always just leave it and try and edit it in post”I would have to say, a lot of photographers I’ve worked with tend to see something that needs changing or moving, something that would only take a few seconds, and they always just leave it and try and edit it in post. It takes 100,000 times longer, and in my opinion never looks 100% as it would’ve if they would have done it then and there.
STC: The photographers and their inner animals are as varied as a rainbow with its colors. Name a few photographers that you look forward to working with in the future.
Sarah: What the hell? The first part to that stumped me for a second [laughs] but, yes, you’re so right! I’m stealing that line. I would die content if I had the chance to work with Josh Ryan and Mégane Claire.
STC: Are you a sex kitten, sex symbol or a superwoman?
Sarah: I guess I’m portrayed as all of those on a regular basis but in all honesty I think I’m too weird and quirky to be considered either of the first two. If there’s a camera around then bomb sex symbol, otherwise I’m far from it. So I’m going to go with superwoman just because I enjoy wearing red and blue and considering some of the crap you have to deal with in life, not just as a model, it makes me pretty super. Yup, I went there. [laughs]
STC: You have a quite a following on social media (400,000+ followers). What’s your secret and the message you commonly here from your fans?
Sarah: I even have almost 500k on Instagram. I guess I don’t really have a secret as such. I just post regularly and no matter how busy I am I set a little time aside to reply to any questions I’m asked. Obviously, I don’t have the time and feel weird replying to the common comments like “you’re beautiful” etc., etc. but I enjoy replying to questions and it makes my page a little more interactive. Social media is so 2D, so wherever I can get my personality across, the better. I’ve only had Instagram for a year, as of two weeks ago, and it’s growing pretty well. So, I must be doing something right.
STC: Your stomping grounds are New Zealand, Australia, Fiji, Bali, Dubai and the USA. Are there any other places where you would really like to go and shoot?
Sarah: I would love to shoot in the Bahamas, Cancun and St. Tropez; basically anywhere beautiful with sun and beaches–my absolute favorite. Although, when I say that, I’ve also always wanted to do a snow shoot somewhere in Canada. Plus, I haven’t been there before, so that’s a win/win. Here’s hoping to sometime this year.
STC: Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
Sarah: In ten years? Gah! I can barely decide what I want for breakfast [laughs]. In all seriousness though, depending on if I look into acting, be successful in that area. Settling down with a family, or worst case scenario I would’ve fallen back on my applied science degree by then.
STC: Are you single?
Sarah: Sorry to disappoint, but no I’m not. It’s actually our 4 year anniversary today, 5th of March. It isn’t the easiest being in a relationship travelling constantly, plus the whole social media thing can get a little difficult from time to time. He deals with it really well and I couldn’t imagine it being any other way.
STC: Worse and best pickup line ever?
Sarah: I can’t take pickup lines seriously. I’ve heard a ton and they’re all bad. One of my mates is known for them. It’s embarrassing [laughs]. One of his favs is the classic “Did it hurt? When you fell from heaven?” Come on! Really? Guys, some advice: please just don’t. Offer a girl a drink, be polite, pull their chair out even. Stay away from the cheesy pickup lines!
STC: If you weren’t modeling, what would you be doing?
Sarah: If I hadn’t have started modelling I would have continued my degree, completed an honors degree and would be working in a lab somewhere frothing for an actual conversation. No one in my class could ever pair up with me or speak to me, which I found really difficult seeing as I’m a people person through and though.
STC: Any hobbies that you would like to share with us?
Sarah: I know it’s a shocking horror but I genuinely do enjoy working out. It’s a stress relief for me. When I’m home, I like to relax so my hobbies are mainly taking my dog for walks, spending time with my friends and family and watching films. Nothing too exciting.
STC: What advice do you have for aspiring models?
Sarah: My main advice would be to consider your next move, the view from down below may look amazing and a particular job may be the be-all at that time of your career. However, once you get there, it may not be. It may actually cause you to lose bigger jobs later on. So, just consider your biggest goals, work hard, stick to your morals and don’t change who you are for anyone.
STC: What advice do you have for our attendees? Any message you’d like to convey in closing?
Sarah: Enjoy your time at STC, make the most of it because an opportunity to learn from the absolute gods of the industry doesn’t come around every day. So stay calm and focused, don’t be afraid to ask questions no matter how silly you think they may be. The last thing you want is to go home afterwards regretting not asking that one thing you had on your mind. Most importantly though, have fun! I cannot wait to meet you all.
