Cover model Ksenia Pilulka welcomes you to the STC Miami 2018 seminar

Our first model choice is no one else but our very own Ksenia Pilulka. It’s only natural since she recently became a Playboy cover model with a smoking 10-page pictorial photographed by Larry Johnson during his One-on-One session.

Ksenia, who is an STC veteran knows what photographers want. Ksenia is one of the original STC seminar models with a taste for success that shows. The only question. Will you be there to get the right shot to satisfy her and find future publishing opportunities?

SI Finalist Jade Williams Joins STC Miami 2018

Earlier this year, STC model Jade Williams was chosen out of more than 5000 applicants to participate in the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit casting in New York. She was one of only thirty models who got invited to the final casting/trial shoot.

Join STC Miami 2018 to photograph the stunning Jade yourself. Plus, see the workflow and edit of Jade’s mega shoot with Jarmo Pohjaniemi and STC attendee Doug Hill before it hits the newsstands.

This unique pictorial with its classic and new style combination has become one, if not the most wanted pictorials we have ever produced! It’s a perfect study example of the differences between good and great photography and what gives an image that much desired iconic look.

Why Are We Different

Our educational edge is based on our extensive accomplishments and experience in the industry. We are internationally acclaimed photographers who have worked for, and some still work for Playboy and have created some of the most talked about pictorials published worldwide. Over the past decades, our collective work has been seen in almost every major publication as well as in advertising campaigns and fine-art galleries.

No other seminar can currently match the published body of work that we bring to the table. Also, we are still top working photographers in the industry who travel the world and are part of building the brands of many high-profile clients. From day one, the STC project was meant to connect the dots for those photographers who are willing to follow our success and take their photography to the next level. Our seminar attendees have the highest published rate of any other seminar in the industry. We don’t simply offer you a weekend full of fun but also an opportunity that can change your life. And that, my friends, is what makes us different.

Who joins the STC seminars and why?

We are often asked, “Am I knowledgeable enough to attend a Shoot The Centerfold seminar?” The answer is, most likely, yes! We have constructed our seminars to meet the needs and expectations of beginners as well as intermediate and advanced photographers. We understand that not everyone wants to make photography their career and that’s why we offer a wide range of options based on your desired aspirations and your current photography skills.

Attendees join Shoot The Centerfold for several reasons. Some of you might only want to a have an unforgettable weekend and a quick getaway from the cold of winter. This explains why the yearly STC seminar is held in Miami; no need to explain that upside too much here.

Many of you have joined the seminar to learn lighting and photography techniques and to have an opportunity to photograph our beautiful seminar models. STC is also a great place to test the new cutting-edge cameras and photography equipment either out of reach for many photographers or not even on the market yet.

The two-day seminar also includes extensive information about the business of photography from the very same people who created and still keep creating the look and style seen in top publications, advertisements and campaigns worldwide for the past 30 years.

By popular demand, we continue with an optional third day for the seminar that goes deeper into the business of photography and publishing. This specific day does not have any models (it’s OK, you’ll survive).

Instead, we will be focusing on how you should approach the market for your photography and how to elevate your photography and market it to turn it into a real profitable business. We will give you tips on how to improve your margins, bottom line, positioning in the market and objectively evaluate your strengths and weaknesses, so you can have the best possible chance to make it in the publishing industry.

We will instill in you a “never take no for an answer” attitude when it comes to your photography business. The STC team of experts consists of the icons of the industry, collectively holding centuries of combined experience. Let us save you from a steep learning curve and lead you in the right direction to make all of your dreams come true.

How does Shoot The Centerfold chooses its models for the Seminars?

Our Seminar Location – Photopia Studios

During my photography career, I had the privilege to see some of the world’s most amazing places, from the magical Arctic Islands, the incredible Kalahari Desert, the enchanting Greek islands, and all the way to mysterious Asian countries.

Choosing the revised Photopia Studios in Miami for the next Shoot the Centerfold seminar/workshop, was a natural choice. Photopia Studios offer more variety and shoot locations than any other studio in Miami. The newly added surface-swimming pool was built with photographers in mind. The white elegant studio rooms with brand name and custom props are specifically designed to fit each studio room in most detail for its signature look.

Miami offers beauty and a “real world” photography experience where models and industry professionals come together. The importance of having the right shooting location is what keeps on inspiring photographers and visionaries alike. One of the fundamental elements for me is to mix theory with practicality; that’s the Shoot the Centerfold way. We strive to bring a professional atmosphere to an excellent learning experience for those who want a taste of the real thing.

The XF Camera System is quite literally the best of all worlds when it comes to digital image quality.

The XF Camera System is available in multiple configurations, up to 100MP. Resolution this high delivers not only incredible detail but also provides creative flexibility, accommodating virtually any application requirement, be it print or digital.

Balancing colors is equal parts art and science. Phase One has been working for over two decades to achieve perfection in colors across hardware and software, and the XF System is a direct reflection of that. You won’t find better color depth or rendering than with an XF Camera System.

14 stop dynamic range
Using large sensor technology, the XF Camera System delivers unparalleled dynamic range, retaining unmatched detail in both highlights and shadows. With the new and exclusive 100-megapixel imaging sensor, the XF Camera System delivers extreme long exposures of up to 60 minutes across 50MP, 60MP and 100MP configurations. Shoot The Centerfold Seminar on Publishing

One of the very exciting bonus perks of STC seminars is that Playboy likes to pick up and share the STC seminar experiences by printing them on the glossy pages of their magazine.

Also, many STC attendees’ work has appeared in Playboy as Playmate pictorials, features, and even covers. Now, that is what we call well-deserved success.

Welcome to STC Photography and Business

Photography is so much more than just a camera and taking pictures

One of the most overlooked areas in photography is the business aspect of running your studio. Photographers, being artists, for the most part, are not usually blessed with a core of business and financial wisdom necessary to establish and maintain a sufficient net income.

At Shoot The Centerfold, we know from experience how important it is to understand photographers’ rights, how to sell an image, secure publication rights and everything else of which you should be aware. Buying a new camera does not instantly make you a photographer, nor does it mean that money will start rolling in; it just means you’re the owner of a camera.

Unless you have skills, experience and the knowledge of how to sell and secure your image rights, your photography will be nothing more than an expensive hobby. Jarmo Pohjaniemi has been in the business for 30-plus years. His experience reaches into every aspect of photography, publishing, contracts and how to make money with your images. Take this unique opportunity to learn from the best in the business so you can learn how to make a profit.

Here are a few tips on how to prepare for your private portfolio review – (Included in third-day Business Seminar)

1. Select your best images

When selecting images for your portfolio review, be sure to choose eight to ten of your best images that show a variety of different styles. All the photos should be from different shoots that exemplify your range of experience from studio to location. The images do not need to be nude, but they can be if you feel strongly about them. Select images that do not have excessive Photoshop manipulation. We are evaluating your photography, not your Photoshop skills. Make sure the print size or viewing area of your image is no smaller than 5”x7” – an iPad, Kindle Fire, or other e-readers would be ideal. Please, no laptop images.

2. Make long story short

Every photographer has a story to tell, and we welcome them all. However, as good as you are in photojournalism, landscape photography, weddings, or even pet portraits; we are here to evaluate fashion and glamour photography. Please limit your selections to pertinent subject matter. Let your images do the talking, but feel free to ask questions. If you don’t, the answer will always be “no.”

3. Listen & learn

Chinese proverb states, “A single day’s conversation with a wise man is better than a year of studying alone.”

As this is very true, we recommend you bring a notepad and take notes for further studies. Also, while videotaping is prohibited, small digital voice recorders are acceptable. It is a rare opportunity to be able to meet and have your photos evaluated by STC professionals. Our goal is to give you the benefit of our many years of experience to advance your photo and business skills.

Starting Your Own Photography Business and How to Make it Profitable

Most photographers that buy photo equipment, whether it be cameras, lenses, lights or other items for their work, think once they acquire what they need their future is secure. Unfortunately, it doesn’t always work that way. Now that you’ve spent a sizable amount of money on equipment, you’ve got to figure out a way to dig yourself out of the financial hole you’ve made in your wallet. Unless you already have a good list of clients, you’ve probably found out receiving a return on your investment isn’t as easy as you thought it’d be. Sound familiar?

Editors are familiar with photographers spending extravagant amounts of money on equipment, both in studios and location expenses. If you’re assuming we’ve heard some pretty good horror stories and more from the photographers who submit their images to us, you’d be correct.

So what does an editor look for in a photographer when they approach us in the hopes of getting published and receiving future assignments? Each case is different, and the winners are those who have their business plan together and can swim with the sharks.

Any established photo editor wants to make sure that their working relationship with the photographer is efficient with no unpleasant surprises along the way. As longtime Playboy’s Director of Photography Gary Cole puts it, “I cannot publish your excuses instead of your images.”

Every day, there are hurdles and obstacles for editors and photographers alike. By attending the seminar, you are preparing yourself to avoid the setbacks and learn how to run a photo business as it should. You have come to the right place because you will not find better mentors with the unique, expansive experience held by Jarmo Pohjaniemi.
